Thanks to hormones, women store fat preferentially in the lower body, while men store in their midsections. Leaning out your legs is not always about burning more and more calories, but more about working out and eating smarter. Here are my top tips to achieve a slimmer bottom half!

Increase cruciferous veggie intake: High estrogen levels can lead to stubborn lower body fat. Cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage, kale, brussels sprouts and cauliflower are fabulous at detoxing excess estrogen. These fiber-rich greens contain compounds which greatly improve the liver’s estrogen detoxification abilities.

Increase blood flow: Increasing blood flow to the lower body is crucial to burning stubborn lower body fat. Include sprint training 2-3 times per week to stimulate blood flow and increase fat-burning hormones. For improved results, consider foam-rolling, steam rooms and saunas.

Lift heavy to create a burn: Building lean muscle tissue is key to keeping your legs tight and toned. Focus on fundamental lower body movements like squats, deadlifts, lunges and leg presses to stimulate lean muscle growth.

Cut out refined carbs: Reducing refined carbohydrates is a must if burning lower body fat is your focus. A low-carb diet naturally reduces the activity of the alpha-adrenergic receptors, which are the receptors known to store lower body fat. Focus on getting the majority of your carbohydrates from veggies and fruits.
